Cricket

Towcestrians Cricket Club was formed in 1934 with many of the original players of the newly formed rugby club. The club moved to the present Greens Norton Road site in 1971 and amalgamated with Greens Norton Cricket Club in 2023.

Our outdoor season runs from late April until September with seniors and juniors playing competitive matches in local Northamptonshire leagues. Indoor practice begins in January and is held at the County ground and Sponne School, Towcester.

Playing and practice facilities are good, including outdoor nets and an artificial wicket. The Sports Club’s development plans signal an exciting future for cricket at Tows. With the provision of a cricket-specific ground and the promise of top-quality playing facilities we will, be able to extend the playing season and increase our playing membership and coaching support.

What do we offer?

We offer something for everyone from the age of 6 upwards. Different skills are introduced via fun initiatives for our youngest members and juniors play competitive matches. There are opportunities for talented youngsters to play representative cricket at county and district level via the County’s player pathway. We are very keen that our juniors progress to play senior cricket for Tows.

Seniors – typically men between 16-50 years but there is no age limit. We have 3 teams playing league and cup matches in Northamptonshire Cricket League (NCL) and various friendly Sunday and mid-week T20 games.

Juniors – compete in Northampton & District Youth Cricket League (N&DYCL). Boys and girls can play in mixed teams. We usually enter Under 11, Under 13 and Under 15 sides but that can change as demand dictates.

We also support the ECB All Stars and Dynamos programmes. All Stars is an introduction to cricket for 5-8 year old boys and girls and Dynamos Cricket aims to develop skills for 8-11 year old boys and girls.

In the past, we have run a ladies team and would love to rebuild this when our expanded facilities allow. If you are interested in being involved please get in touch.

  • English and Wales Cricket Board
  • Northants Recreational Cricket (now Steelbacks In The Community)
  • Northampton & District Youth Cricket League

Towcestrians Cricket Club is working towards Clubmark status, which recognises that the administration and delivery of the sport is handled professionally and responsibly.

Who can get involved?

We welcome girls, boys, men and women, although we don’t have a ladies team at the moment it’s in the plan. Whether you’re new to the sport, returning from a break, or have moved into the area – come and see what we offer.

We’re always seeking to connect with keen volunteers

Tows cricket club is run by volunteers and we have a constant need to replenish the pool of those willing to give their time and skills to the club.

Providing the necessary coaching support for our juniors is a perennial issue. The club arranges funding for club coaches, umpires and scorers to gain the appropriate qualifications. If you are willing to get involved do make contact. There are a range of other areas we need help with as well…

  • Coaches and managers for all age groups
  • Umpires and scorers for all age groups
  • Volunteers for pitch preparation, maintenance of the pavilion and surrounds
  • Club administration e.g. pursuing sponsorship and funding opportunities
  • Individuals with skills that will help us with the development of the new cricket resource.
