Hockey Match Reports – Let the season begin!!

TOWCESTER 1ST VS EDGBASTON
1-1

This week saw Towcester Ladies 1st team begin their league battle vs Edgbaston in the Midlands 1 league. A noticably rusty start from Tows led them to be one goal down at the half time break with three unutilised short corners to boot. An inspirational chat from new coach Blake Dunkley during half time made Tows pull their socks up and come out a different side in the second half. Edgbaston very much on the back foot for the first ten minutes with good all round team play from Towcester including debut appearances from siblings Jess and Izzy Plumbridge. but it was Christina Clucas who slotted away a Laura Whittle pass around the Edgbaston keeper to draw level. A solid start to the season with a point gained. Player of the match was goalkeeper Sue Willers. Next week (oct 4th 1.30) Tows go away to Northampton Saints

Towcester 2nd vs Derby Asterdale
0 – 8

A difficult first game of the season for Towcester 2’s fielding a very young side with many new team members make their entry into the Midlands Feeder East division following promotion last season. Tows were able to hold their own for the first 20 mins. After a strong start from Towcester , Derby scored from 2 well worked short corners and a goal through open play to make it 3-0 at half time. Tracy Macdonald provided some strong runs down the right with good support play by Cheryl Mucculloch and Karen Wildman. Victoria Hawking kept the Tows defence alive and Laura simpson worked tirelessly in midfield and was rewarded for her hard work with the player of the match award. Final result of 8-0 to Derby did not reflect the effort, discipline and perseverance shown by the whole Towcester team.

Towcester 3rds vs Oundle
0-3

Oundle made a strong start against the 3,s looking sharp on the attack and scored 2 goals in the first half. Tows settled better in half 2 and despite lots of attempts on goal failed t find the backboard. Oundle then scored from a short corner against the run of play. India Cooke was named player of the match .
