In Remembrance

Sadly we have to report the passing of two old Towcestrians.

Chris Spackman recalls:

JOHN STARMORE

“I don’t know very much about John Starsmore, but here’s what I do know.

The earliest photo we have of John, brother Pete and Pete Butcher is 1952

His brother was captain in 1947/48 but I don’t know if John was actually playing then ,I would assume he was, he would have been around 21/22 years old.

He was still a Vice President last season and I think was at one of the lunch’s

He and his brother were framers in Deanshanger.

The funeral is Wednesday 15th July at Wicken church, 11.30

PETE BUTCHER
Again I don’t know very much about Pete.

He played late 40s and 50s along with the Starsmore’s

Was a flight engineer on Lancaster Bomber’s in WW2

Was involved in the Berlin air lift

Worked for B.O.A.C

He along with John Weekly did loads of building work for the club, including building the Cricket Pavilion!
Fond memories for me was Pete working behind the bar and having trouble with the till, almost every week, his best effort was an over ring of £175000, it made a real mess of Wacka’s margins.”

Our deepest sympathies and condolences go out to John and Peter’s family and friends.

We shall miss them, but they will never be forgotten. Once a Towcestrian, always a Towcestrian
