Sports Update

Rugby

The 1st X1 earned a nail biting bonus point draw last weekend away at Guildford, securing the draw with the last kick of the game. The still much depleted side, through injuries, will be buoyed by this taking them into the home game this weekend against fellow league strugglers Shefford, so come and support them!

As reported last week “Honest John” Tustian sadly passed away and all the home teams will honour him with a minute’s silence before the game which starts at the earlier time of 2.00pm. We shall also be raising a glass in John’s remembrance, so do make the effort and come down on Saturday!

Towcester Roses have got a crucial top of the table clash on Sunday at home against Bishops Stortford KO 1.30pm. The Ladies picked up their first award recently at a special awards dinner. The Roses are now the “Community Team of the Year”. Fantastic achievement for a team only started a year ago…

As part of the M&J section achievements, this is an email to the Chair of M&J’s, Simon Cammidge and is a write up on the U16’s selection to Ultimate 7’s National squad… It’s a great news story and well deserving of inclusion in this month’s newsletter!

Back in May the then U15’s played in the Basingstoke 7’s Festival.   From that day, a number of Players from the team were scouted by the Ultimate 7’s National Squad.  A fantastic achievement for Towcestrians and a real credit to the Club, Coaches and Players themselves.  For the squad a total of 60 boys were chosen for the Juniors and 30 for the Seniors from across the country.

Ollie Robinson & George James attended the 4 Day Residential Training Camp at Epsom College during the Summer Holidays. They had a variety of Coaches who are current and ex International 15’s & 7’s Players.  This was an amazing opportunity which they both fully embraced.

Since then they have been training with the Squad, along with other players from all over the Country.  Training takes place mainly in the South, with the closest being in Basingstoke.  They are currently on the Winter break but will start training again in March, with the first game looking likely to be in May.  Let’s wish the boys the very best of luck!

They are currently sitting top of the League at the moment after 2 straight wins against Bedford Blues and Kettering.  CR

On behalf of the whole of Towcestrians we would like to say congratulations to all involved especially to our stars of the future!

If any one from any section has a story to tell or of some noteworthy achievements we would be happy to include it in our newsletter and promote on our websites and social media platform. Please send them to John  johnenglish@towcestrians.azurewebsites.net with of course parental permission where necessary.

M&J are always looking for volunteers.
At present we are looking for a new minis fixtures coordinator.
