Weekend Roundup

Rugby

Tows 1st XV were the only one to see any rugby last weekend as all other matches were cancelled due to waterlogged pitches!

Tows hosted Reading in gale force winds at Greens Norton Rd. The wind probably helping to dry out the surface and make the game playable. Thanks to the work done on pitch improvement last year enabled the game to take place at all! A big thank you to the environment agency for NOT getting involved!

Tows were ultimately the better side and scored two good try’s, one in each half, to keep them firmly in the promotion spot in SW East 1 Div. full report on the rugby website…………

Although the conditions probably deterred a number of spectators, those brave enough to brave the element were able to keep themselves warm by using the new Pitchside Tows Takeaway selling great value, delicious food, teas and coffee! A big thank you to the Cricket section for providing the service and they will be there on 1st Team match days for the rest of the season including the match on this Tuesday against Buckingham!

Lewis Shield

Tows play host to local rivals Buckingham this Tuesday 11th Feb KO 7.30 at Greens Norton Rd. in the latest round of the Lewis Shield! Come and support the boys! Hot food and drinks available before, during and after the game.

Hockey

Mixed fortune for Tows Ladies this week, the first team losing narrowly away against Loughborough Students whilst the 2nds won at home against Rothwell. The 2nds are in second place in their division and have to win ALL of their remaining games to win promotion following a points deduction due to fielding an ineligible player. The third team had no fixture this week.

6 Nations Rugby on TV at Tows

The first two rounds of this years championship are now complete and the clubhouse has been exceedingly busy with supporters choosing to watch England (and others!) whilst having a few libations! This is a great way to enjoy the rugby with friend in a true rugby atmosphere! This Saturday was also supplemented by having Saints on TV after the England game which encouraged a good crowd to linger longer

Once again, Tows have picked a cracker of a match to host a 6 Nations Lunch with unbeaten Ireland visiting Twickenham, KO 4.00 pm. Tows will be providing a heart-warming lunch of traditional home cooked Irish Stew (what else?) followed by a great cheeseboard selection for only £10 a ticket including a free drink. Please book your tickets through John English 07879 497297 johnenglish@towcestriansssc.co.uk this Tows tradition will take place on 22nd Feb, lunch at 1.00 pm.
