Rugby

The 1St XV rugby won their first league away game against Grove who beat them in the same fixture. A bruising and often bad tempered affair ended up with Tows victorious and narrowly missing out on a try bonus point. Win ugly…

The Development XV didn’t have a fixture and picked up a “friendly” against Hinckley who are a club another step up the rugby ladder, so a tough game was expected and so it proved with Tows training at half time but managing to turn the game round in the last quarter as our better fitness paid off. Very encouraging all-round performance!

The 3rds (The Ultimates) lost their first run out of the season to BBOB 2nds while the Colts came back from 17-0 down to draw against old rivals Buckingham, a great result that showed a lot of character!

Hockey

While the 1st team didn’t have a fixture the 2nd XI boosted their confidence with an exciting win away against Harbourne going out 3-2 winners.

Cricket

As the month of September heralds the end of the cricket season one last challenge faced the Tows! A T20 challenge match against our hosts for this season, Blakesley!

Blakesley batted first and amassed a great 152 due to some lusty blows from Andre Bodily, Pete Shepperd and Gary Turner, the ball leaving the confines of the ground on several occasions and left a family of squirrels looking for new accommodation! However after both Pete and Gary had been stumped by some crisp wicket keeping by Shagger English the innings lost momentum

Tows reply got off to a great start with the openers Ollie Drage and Rob Jones putting on over 70 for the first wicket. Rob went on to complete his 50 and was joined by James Baldwin who preceded to despatch the leather sphere to all parts and threatened to keep the local roofer in business for weeks ahead. James retired at 50 and the win was sealed by some good blows from young George Speakman! Skipper Tom Shepperd remains the T20 undefeated Captain. Both teams and supporters then retired to the “Barts” for a terrific tea and some strong but welcome refreshments! A great fun way to round off the season and the promise of some new recruits for next season………..
