On Saturday Tows took part in the Alliance Cup quarter final away to local rivals Bugbrooke. The home team had the edge in the opening exchanges and made Tows look strangely hesitant. They paid the price after failing to clear the ball, Bugbrooke picked up and drove over from close in for a converted try.
After replying with a penalty Tows’ scrum began to struggle and an error at the line out lead to a penalty try after Tows were put onto the back foot. The made for a disappointing half time score of 14 – 3 to Bugbrooke.
After the break Tows fell further behind, the home fly half Baxendale converting a penalty. The introduction of tight head John Causebrook of three months of injury buffered the scrum and at last Tows began to show some fire. Minutes after Tows opted to kick to touch from a penalty, the resulting line out was driven over, Dougie Rattray coming up with the ball. The score was converted. The scores were then levelled as Tows scored another shortly after that.
Tows, now in complete control ran in three unanswered tries from Luke Rust, Matt Bodily and Fen Gallagher all of which were converted for Falvey to complete a perfect day with the boot.
Bugbrooke finished the game by battering at the Tows line, they could not find their way through and left Tows with a home game against fierce rivals ON’s to decide this year’s finalists.
