This week’s Sports round up is dominated by the Rugby section’s 2 valiant attempts at glory.
The First XV played their eagerly awaited promotion playoff game at home again the runners up of South West 1 West Div, Chard.
Chard is a town in South Somerset slightly larger than Towcester and rich in rugby tradition like ourselves. They brought with them over 100 travelling supporters to help create a fantastic atmosphere with one of the biggest home supports seen here for many years. The full match report can be viewed on the Rugby website written by Hugo Austin.
Suffice to say, Chard were a very good powerful side who ultimately overcame the Tows but not without a spirited fight from the guys and led to a nerve racking last few minutes when we could have just sneaked it! Well done Tows, we are proud of you, not just for this game but the way you have played and conducted yourselves throughout the season, congratulations to each and every player, captained by Liam Wilkinson and coaching staff led by Robbie George. Just one more game to go, more later……
The U17’s travelled to Doncaster to play in the semi-final of the National Shield, having already won their regional final. They came up against a club, Blaydon, which plays its senior Rugby 3 levels above Towcestrians, so it is no disgrace to have come second best on this occasion. They can rightly say we are playing in with some of the best Clubs in the country. Along with the coaches and parents, Towcestrians is very proud of you and it bodes well ,for the future, to help the club push for further future glories. Well done!
